Father of murdered woman 'assaulted' in Malaysian court

SHAH ALAM, Malaysia (AFP) - The father of a slain Mongolian woman told a Malaysian court Friday that he was punched and kicked by the wife of a man on trial in connection with her murder.
Setev Shaariibuu, who is testifying in the murder trial of his daughter Altantuya Shaaribuu, 28, said the wife of Abdul Razak Baginda had punched him in the stomach outside the courtroom Friday.
"Just now she (Mazlinda Makhzan) hit me," he said.
"Every time she passes me (in the waiting room for witnesses), she kicks me. She is harassing and cursing me since the trial started (Monday)," he said.
Abdul Razak, 47, is accused of abetting the murder in October last year of Altantuya, his former lover.
The case has become a highly-charged political issue as Abdul Razak has close ties to Malaysian deputy prime minister Najib Razak.
Prosecutors say Abdul Razak planned Altantuya's killing and ordered two police officers -- members of a special unit charged with protecting the country's leaders -- to carry it out.
All three face the death penalty if found guilty.
Abdul Razak has vehemently denied any involvement in the case, which is seen by observers as a test of the country's judicial and political integrity.
Prosecutors say Altantuya was killed by "probable blast-related" injuries in Shah Alam, southwest of the capital Kuala Lumpur, after she was driven away from outside Abdul Razak's house.
